Blessed Is The Man...

This past Sunday our Pastor spent some time in one of my favorite passages, Psalm 1. Here are verses 1-4:

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,

Nor stands in the path of sinners,

Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;

But his delight is in the law of the Lord,

And in His law meditates day and night,

He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,

That brings forth its fruit in its season,

Whose leaf shall not wither;

And whatever he does shall prosper.

As we studied that passage on Sunday, I felt particularly blessed as my nine year old granddaughter sat right beside me in church. On the last Sunday of each month the young children are in our main service, not their usual Sunday School classes.

The handouts for these monthly family services are intended to keep the children focused. There is usually some coloring involved and on this particular week the children were encouraged to draw a picture of a tree growing out of a bible. The lesson for both children and adults is that a blessed man is like a well fed tree firmly planted in God's Word. My granddaughter Ryan's picture is above, I was impressed.

When my priorities are correct and I am meditating on His Word, I feel particularly blessed. I was in that "place" on Sunday and doubly blessed to be sitting next to and observing Ryan as she illustrated the "blessed man". Just for good measure my Grandson was serving with the technical team during that same service. God has blessed our grandkids with gifts and talents that could only have come from Him.

Proverbs 17:6 says that children's children are the crown of old men, and the glory of children is their father. Only a grandparent can fully appreciate this verse, but I was feeling very blessed on Sunday morning. I felt very much like a tall tree that was bringing forth fruit, a tree whose leaves were not withering and for that brief moment in time, feeling that all that I might do would prosper.

Thanks, Bill, for sharing this meditation. We are truly blessed to have the Word of God. And how great it is that your grandkids can be imbibing truths such as these even in their tender years!
